Was worried that Mayrhofen at half term might be a nightmare but could not have been more wrong. The anticipated mass of school age skiers and boarders did not materialise and for the most part the slopes were uncrowded. Much is made in the Resort Guide about the queue for the Penken gondola, which can seem daunting, but if you keep to the outside "lane" you can normally get to the front within 10-15 minutes. Once past that though there are no real bottlenecks. The only real problem…

All chair lifts up to 8 man disconnect from main cable in stns making safe use for all. Many and varied runs, some challenging reds, other wide open easy pistes. The only downside is there is not much to challenge the most proficient of skiers but beginners and intermediates are well catered for. Excellent ski school. Accommodation whilst not cheap…

Valmorel is a great place for a family ski trip and we were blessed with great snow conditions all week, a nice mix of partly sunny days and 2 days of light snow and a heavy dump overnight. For beginners / intermediaries this resort is brilliant, loads of different runs, fantastic scenery, smashing mountain bars / restaurants. Reasonable prices, no lift queues. The snake gliss run at the end of the day is a must.
