The ski area surrounding Saalbach predominately consists of well-groomed motorway blue and red pistes, a lot of them long and perfect for cruising yet with a high proportion of unrelenting high-end intermediate challenges too. A few of the runs on the lowest flanks of the valley cut through attractively wooded areas, but the majority of the slopes are open and above the tree line and the pistes are nicely inter-spaced with plenty of powder fields in the periods following fresh snowfalls; all sectors are well-served with lively mountain bars and good restaurants.

Having skied many French, Italian and Swiss resorts over the years, we absolutely loved Saalbach. The skiing in the Ski circus is so varied that everyone in our group had a super ski holiday and we able to meet up easily at one of the great mountain restaurants at lunch. Really lively apres-ski - dancing on tables, drinking pints and skiing afterwards!

Everything is just right in Saalbach Hinterglemm: modern ski lifts, well-prepared slopes - super skiing -, the best apres ski in the Alps. It is just perfect! Especially the Hinterglemm part. Great to be able to ski out and back to our hotel - what a treat for the end of the day.

The resort is well laid out with numerous access points allowing you access to 200 kilometres of world class skiing. The Schattberg express is my favourite way to get up the mountain and then go left and take the 2b run of 7km all the way to the bottom.
Loads of choice of Apres starting from lunchtime on some slopes but the cowshed is one of my favourite places to dance on the tables with jaegger in hand. Great choice of accommodation from cheap pensions to delux hotels. 40 mountain restaurants to choose from for lunch and good value for money that you can eat for less than 10 euros a head including dish of the day and drink and desert

The lift system is the best around, with the whole area superbly connected. I have lost count of the number of lifts that have been modernised over the years, always with faster more comfortable ones. The slopes are well groomed and the snow record excellent. Yes, there could be a bit more off piste, but thats really nit picking. Apres-ski superb and last year the floodlit slope was doubled in length and had halogen lights installed, if you want to ski til 10pm! Try and ski the whole circuit in a day, it takes some doing!
