I had the chance to ski Saalbach on April 4th/5th. Every groomed slope was open but (of course), most off piste was (understandably) marked OB. Some very good long runs that will KILL your legs. Decent reds and a black or two. Lots of easy Blue runs. Weather was freezing at night and in the 50's during the day. Morning is pretty decent but the conditions turn to slush by 2pm so get the skiing in early. Very family-oriented resort but can also serve the party crowd.

The resort is great for intermediates, with more runs than you can ski in a week. The only down sides are skiing back from Hinterglem, which either requires coming down a fairly tame (but very icy) black run or skiing a long blue, getting a cable car back up the other side of the valley, then skiing back down to the village.rnI would recomend this resort to anyone other than beginners as some of the blue runs are more like red and could ruin your confidence. Experts might find it limited but there appeared to be lots of off piste.

Saalbach Hinterglemm are two lovely austrian villages. Located in the glemmtal, close to Zell am See. It has an extensive ski arena: total of 200 km. The area is not very well connected though. It is hard to get from one side of the valley to the other (only possible in Saalbach), or to the other end of the valley (Leogang-Hinterglemm). It takes a lot of traversing, and many, many lifts. That being said, there are many things going for the skicircus, as it is called. It has many wide slopes (blues, and reds), nices scenery, good restaurants and a GREAT atmosphere. The apres-ski in both villages is top class, considering the size of the villages. It will make you return next year, for sure!

The facilities at Saalbach are excellent and the local people friendly and very helpful. The infrastructure of the resort was superb and the skiing first class. The ski school instructors all spoke good English and catered for all levels. Some of the slopes were a little challenging but there is plenty for all in the area. Due to the layout of the ski lifts one could follow different routes each day. We would recommend this resort for beginners and intermediate skiers. The apres-ski in Saalbach is one of the best!

Saalbach is a resort not may Americans know about. It is tucked away in its own valley not far from the beautiful resort of Zell am See. The skiing here is some of the best in the Alps. The ski area spreads itself along both sides of the valley. This gives you a variety of ski conditions due to the exposure of the sun. Keep this in mind when skiing the “ski circus” of Saalbach. With fifteen Gondolas and a multitude of lifts, there is always a new adventure to be found on the mountain. The resort has beautiful chalet style restaurants scattered through out the mountain. Skiing is not the only thing to do at Saalbach. The night life is what is to be expected at an Austrian
