I was in Montgenenvre recently where the first snow fell on Sunday 24th September. Maybe this is a good sign for the winter? A massive amount of work is happening in Montgenevre to improve the facilities. The centre of the village is now an almost traffic area. A tunnel takes all the through traffic away from the centre, which is now almost pedestrianised. Font Romeu is quite a good place for exploring the whole of the Cerdagne and Capcir. However, for skiing you are better off at Les Angles in the Capcir which is about 20 minutes drive (you can see the back of Font Romeu from the top of Les Angles). I don't know why Les Angles is not in the guide as it is a much better resort in my opinion. There is also skiing next to Les Angles in Formigueres. Apparently all the resorts in the Cerdagne and Capcir are now covered by one lift ...

Spent the week of 16th to 23rd December in Cervinia. We drove there and had a somewhat quaint (in a sixties sort of way) apartment in the Theodule Block next door to the Petit Palais, very convenient for the lifts to Plan Maison. Weather was brilliant, and sking superb, we skied pretty much everything, including lots on the Swiss side - nothing ever closed by wind.
