Have just returned from a weeks skiing in Sestriere (21st - 28th January 7). On the Sunday we arrived, the majority of the mountains were green! But a fair few pistes were open and we managed some decent skiing on them. All changed on the Monday when the snow started to fall (for a total of 4 days) and the pistes got a good covering, along with the manmade snow that was being blown out all the time. Great place to stay. Recommend staying here over Alpe dhuez. Outside esculator provides excellent access from higher parts of village to the gondalas; extremely welcome after 8 hours on the slopes. Small area above Vaujany is away from main busy areas of alpe dhuez and provides some lovely long, quiet and well groomed runs easy access to alpe dhuez ski area as long as you can ski reds confidently. The skiing area is quite extensive and offers mainly blue and red pistes. I particularly enjoyed skiing between the trees. Even though I was there in the Christmas holidays, the slopes were not crowded and the queues were short. One thing Praloup lacks for sure is après-ski. In spite of that, I can recommend this resort to anyone who loves skiing and doesnt demand (very) challenging runs.
