Val is an impressive place with a huge ski area (easily comparable to the Three Valleys) when considered with Tignes. It also has a pretty town centre not dominated by concrete monoliths. Generally it's an expensive resort - expect to pay E10 on the mountain for spag bol, E5 for a beer ! The runs are (generally) NOT for beginners. Their blues are more like reds and the few greens they have can be quite narrow. I was surprised that on one day they hadn't pisted the blue overnight,…

Have been heading to La Plagne now for a number of years and it seems to get better each year. Always great skiing and snow conditions. There is good early snow at the moment! La Plagne beats many of the other high priced resorts across the planet. When you are looking for typical Dutch hospitality go to the Dutch bar: après-skibar PlanJA.nl in La Plagne centre. It is on the road to Aime 2000. From far you can see the blue lights.

Main run down from the Grafernberg to Wagrain is a great long run. The costs here were very reasonable. For 12 Euros you could get a large lunch with main course , dessert and drink., where the same in the 3 Valleys would cost at least 25 Euros. Cons: There are only a few really tough runs and…
