Ischgl is ranked among the top ski destinations in Austria. Have to say I still do not know why. The slopes are nice for intermediates at best. It does not offer much variety, nor very exciting long descends. Ischgl is prone to strong winds and which make the lifts not very reliable. On Alp Trida clouds can result in poor visibility. We have just returned from a fabulous week (ending 3rd March). The snow is excellent with plenty of powder. However it is a little difficult to ski across to Zurs due mainly to wind and poor visibility. The best of the weather definitely seems to be in Lech. Even St Anton has poor visibility. The resort itself is stunning. It truly is the birthplace of skiing and retains much of its traditional character. No place can beat the Dolomites when it comes down to the combination of scenery, ambiance, food and skiing.. oh, skiing. And within the Dolomites, Arabba is by far the best place to make a base from which to explore Sella Ronda, Marmolada, Val Badia, Fassa, Gardena and Lagazuoi/Armentarola.
