Despite websites extolling an epic year for snow in the Alps, the details on conditions told a different story, with off-piste skiing described as limited. That was a disappointment, because the off-piste potential for this area in a good snow year is truly vast. I only skied a small fraction of Val Thorens. Zermatt has got the best combination of slopes, and fabulous restaurants - the 2 most important things for me. It can be very expensive, but there are well priced apartments, and you can cater for your self to make it all a bit cheaper. The skiing is superb! The Gornergrat offers easy skiing, there are unlimited off-piste/touring options, and the scenery is astonishing. It never fails to delight.
