Ischgl is ranked among the top ski destinations in Austria. Have to say I still do not know why. The slopes are nice for intermediates at best. It does not offer much variety, nor very exciting long descends. Ischgl is prone to strong winds and which make the lifts not very reliable. On Alp Trida clouds can result in poor visibility. The slopes in Filzmoos are superb for families, intermediate skiers and begginers. With no Black runs it means that the whole mountain is a joy to explore. The pistes are wide yet varied and were kept in great condition. One of the high points are the mountain top cafes. They are traditional wood, and the staff are excellent. For those who enjoy an elevenses of gluwein or hot chocolate, and lunch of cracking goulash, this is the resort to go to. Cant wait to go back!

I do not think Obertauern is the right resort for a complete beginner because there are few real nursery slopes and not easy to access. It really best suits intermediates, since there are opportunities for former beginners to make that next step into the Red runs (as I did) and also for experienced intermediates to take on some of the steeper reds and the few blacks.
