The Glacier provides a snow sure holiday. When the conditions are right (which is most of the winter) there are so many off-piste possibilities. The village offers, probably the best beginners slope available and small children have several areas in which to learn as well. As an alternative the area of Zell am See is a short bus ride away and offers a large variety of skiing. Zell is a larger town and nosier/livelier than Kaprun. Stayed in Valloire 2nd week of Jan 2008. Booked self-catering apartment through resort website/local booking office. Very good service and very reasonable prices. Our group of intermediates/beginners were really pleased with the resort. It was perfect for us as plenty of long scenic blues and greens, plus wide open reds and virtually no wait for the lifts, all of which had friendly staff. I went with a party of twelve who were a mix of abilities. Fortunately we had loads of new snow so the slopes were in excellent condition. The town is small but has everything you need. Don't go if you are looking for loud music and street parties but the pubs are good and restaurants are reasonable for price and all seem to have extensive menus.
