Schladming reviews

Nice ski area but usually not the best snow conditions, down to resort often slushy so best to get gondola down from middle station. Apres ski is limited, but there are several nice bars on the slopes.

There are 4 mountains to ski between, for us our least favourite is Planai as we always feel it is busier. Most of the lift system is quick but there are a few old chairs still about.

The runs are mostly reds but a run having a blue designation does not always mean it is any easier than the reds around it! There are a few blacks including the famous run into the resort.

Wide and well groomed pistes encourage many skiers to ski far too fast for their ability, the slopes are very much alike, the altitude is relatively low and sometimes it gets really slushy in Spring although the pisteurs do a great job keeping the snow as good as possible even late in the season. Wonderful small little town with an amazing amount of ski tracks on a combination of 4 mountains. The Schladming 4-mountain ski complex links the 4 largest Styrian ski mountains – Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm. 123 kilometres of pistes and 44 modern cableways and lifts. Schaldming is an old town with a lovely atmosphere, lots of cafes and places to eat

The resort seems geared towards intermediates, loads of red runs on 4 separate mountains, plus the Dachstein glacier a bit further away. Great, full of character mountain restaurants, very reasonably priced (5-9 euros for a main course). When we were there, buckets of snow fell, which made for great powder off-piste, through the trees skiing. In more regular conditions, I might have felt a bit bored as a more advanced skier. Lifts are on the whole very modern, ski pass is overpriced, par for the course perhaps though. Resort inordinately popular with Danes.

Schladming was a wonderful skiing experience in every way. This not so well know resort in the Eastern Alps is much larger than it appears. Each mountain is a nice size in itself but add the four link mountains together and you have a week of exploring to do. The ski runs are extremely well groomed. Restaurants are everywhere. A great excursion is to rodel at night at Hoch Wurchen. A wonderful rodel piste with a small restaurant at the top by the name of Hoch Wurchen Alm. The glacier at the Dachstein is definetly worth the trip. You do not need a car because there is a bus system to get you around, but things are a bit spread apart so a car is useful. All in all a ski area well worth the eff
