Have just returned from Meribel & thought I would warn you all this is not the place to go if you are on a budget (unless your budget is that of a Russian oligarch.) The pistes are amazing though & should be enough to take your mind off the price of a pint. I particularly enjoyed the Bartavelle black piste at the top of the Roc de Tougne drag lift & Combe Vallon is an amazing descent at the right time of day. The most beautiful slopes is the catchword they use here to describe the location. I consider that true to a great extent. During our stay the slopes were always well-prepared. The quality was better than for the nearby Planai/Schladming ski resort. The slopes under Almlift and HofiExpress are ideal for beginners and children, the only downside is need to use narrow connecting ways to get there. Numerous hutten for lunch with good service.

The amazing Sarenne route is the longest in Europe. It offers challenging black sections and magnificent views! Everybody should do this one once in their lifetime. Alpe d' Huez offers more black pistes at high altitude, but those are quite short, but definatelly challenging. The lower sections are mostly red and blue. Alpe d'Huez is not a pretty resort, but offers some nice entertainment at night. Don't expect to find here apres-ski austrian style. Be ware if the drinks scam over…
