We've just had some great skiing in Bansko. The mountain is quite small but there was plenty for a week and you can see how much scope there is for them to extend in the next few years. The old town was fascinating but there was quite a lot of building going on, luckily we were not staying anywhere near to that. Fantastic, small resort but the skiing is varied and there's a lot of off-piste available without much hiking. Pistes groomed very well, even when the resort was packed on New Years Eve, the little resort next door Dobrinishte was much quieter and is very very pretty. We had great food and service in Chalet Rozov and we loved the old town. I am planning another trip this year.

I'm afraid that I found Bansko very disappointing - visited at New Year for a week and would not return, regardless of how cheap it is. It didn't help that we were "bumped" to a superior hotel 10kms out of town; I wanted the quaint and more traditional, not the expensive and superficial. The trip that I had planned and paid for meant that I would be within walking distance of my 6 friends staying in the centre of town. While Bansko is not at fault for this, I found the whole…
