I'm afraid that I found Bansko very disappointing - visited at New Year for a week and would not return, regardless of how cheap it is. It didn't help that we were "bumped" to a superior hotel 10kms out of town; I wanted the quaint and more traditional, not the expensive and superficial. The trip that I had planned and paid for meant that I would be within walking distance of my 6 friends staying in the centre of town. While Bansko is not at fault for this, I found the whole "construction site ambience" very unwelcoming and it seems obvious that unless the skiing infrastructure is massively overhauled, there are way too many hotels being built.
