Are is a nice place to visit, and yes it is very cold, and yes, some of the runs can be a overcrowded, but all of the runs are great, some steep stuff for the more advanced, some winding runs for the novice, not a lot for the beginner though. I would certainly recommend visiting in late Jan onwards...Pack plenty of warm stuff. February and march are the best to be in Are.

Hintertux...what a place! In my view the best glacier resort in Europe. Modern and fast lift system, Piste in great condition and cheap places to eat. The real secret is the off piste! Just below the glacier line in the winter there is a huge off piste bowl ( some of it marked as "schiroute" marked off piste ) and no body skis it!
