Everything about Val Thorens is big and bold, huge pistes, long wide runs and plenty to do. When the lifts close it is one of the best resorts for Apres Ski. It doesn have the snobby crowds found in the other 3 Valley resorts, instead Val Thorens has the top of the world frontier out post feel. They party like its the last night on Earth. Maybe it is the altitude or the mass of Dutch and Scandanavians here but it just has a rought and ready feel to it.

We really enjoyed the blue run 31 from the Vorab gondola station – a wide open motorway of a piste, great confidence builder for timid intermediates and good fun for more advanced intermediates when done quickly ! We also ski-ed across from Vorab on piste 30 to the Nagens/Plaun area above Flims which had some great confidence building blues and reds (piste 30 itself was a bit of a flat wind beaten affair but worth the effort to get to Plaun/Nagens runs. There are also several…
