Little charming resort close to Kitzbuhel. The 3.5km 3S bahn connects the Penkenstein mountain top to Jochberg, Pass Turn and beyond. Pass Turn has some nice black slopes (Zweitausender). In between there are beautiful cruising tracks. Neighbouring Kitzbuhel has an excellent selection of reds, and of course the famous Hahnenkahm. Kirchberg is very lively for such a small resort. Lot's of Apres Ski. All in all a great destination to keep you busy for at least a week!

Not a great base for exploring the Portes de Soliel as it is a bit of a drag through Morzine to Avoraiz but it can be done if you're keen enough. This year there were feet of snow in the town so the skiing was fantastic but it would be a risk in warmer conditions as it is so low.

For supposedly the busiest week of the season the slopes and lifts were remarkably unpacked. Add to that the excellent snow and this was one of the best resorts that I have skied at. There are plenty of greens and easy blues for beginners but the real attraction of Montgenevre is the number and quality of fast tree lined reds which are quite simply a joy. There are a few blacks as well and these are all relatively straight forward, well pisted and a real confidence builder. The key to…
