We had the best time EVER in Solden when we went for New Year in 2006. Midnight on New Years eve was breathtaking and such a fun experience. The Slopes are perfect with a something for everyone. Overall, Zell am See is a cool resort with great skiing & superb nightlife. The town is beautiful & has a genuine atmosphere of it's own. It has NOT gone downmarket like so many other resorts in the Alps. It is remarkably cheap & has excellent aprhs-ski. Therefore it is suitable for both families & groups. There some fantastic skiing in and around Mayrhofen. If you try Gerlos and Konigsleiten for example there is every chance you will have the piste to yourself outside of main hoilday weeks and like the rest of the Zillertal the lifts are modern and efficient. I have been skiing this area for 19 years now. Try the sledge lodges at Lannersbach in the day or evening.T hey have 5km flood light runs which without doubt are some of the best in the world.
