Solden spreads along the main valley. This means either a lot of walking or taking a bus to lift stations in the mornings or to find a restaurant at night. There are only 2 proper lifts from the base up the mountain, and you can understand why they are very busy at peak hours. The ski area itself is split into 3 clearly defined sectors. I am an intermediate skier and really enjoyed the variety of slopes - plenty of reds, blues and some blacks too. Busy, narrow blues though. If you want a huge area to ride, vast untracked powdery vistas, modern chairlifts with covers, and frankfurters with every meal, then Solden is the place for you. More strip bars than you ever thought possible in a ski resort. The Slopes are perfect with a something for everyone. The Giggijoch side (red slopes) is a nice place to start your day; also it has a great offpiste between Giggijoch and Gaislach; For the better snowboarding area's go to Gaislach or the Rettenbach gletcher; Gaislach has good red slopes and there are alternitive off piste route to choose from.

Solden is a bit overrated in my opinion. It lacks the charm of a skiresort like Saalbach or Kirchberg where you can watch the skiers from downtown. Furthermore the ski area is not well interconnected. Besides the Giggijoch the slopes are a bit narrow. There are some challeging slopes but it does not offer the excitemant of Sankt Anton or Chamonix. It is not really suitable for beginners either. It is basically a medium sized ski area for intermediate ski die hards. It is nice to have the challenging glaciars, the wide slopes on the Giggijoch and some challenging slopes towards the town. The best aspect is the apres ski scene. Las few years it is going downhill 'cos of the Russians.

Solden love it or hate it. What's to love? Well if you are an experienced skier you will probably love the glaciers and the slopes towards the village. Moreover the slopes are always maintained very well.
On the other hand many people hate the Gigijoch for all the beginners, snowboarders and ski classes. It is always very crowded here, although the lift system is excellent.
The atmosphere has rocked bottom the past few years because of the rude Russians and other East-Europeans. The village in itself is scattered alongside a road a narrow valley. It does not have the charming image as other village in Austria, like Kirchberg, Mayrhofen, Zell am See or Lech.

In terms of skiing, this resort has it all. It is not called the "Big 3" for nothing. You have access to three mountains over 3000m and two of them are glaciers so good snow is guaranteed. For those of you who are perhaps worried about skiing on glaciers, please don't be worried. Contrary to what many people think, the pistes at the top are actually easier than those at the bottom and as long as you stay on the piste we found it to be very safe. The condition of the snow up there is amazing and the runs are mainly blue/red and very long. The three mountains are very well connected, without those annoying little paths between lifts where you end up pushing yourself along. The lifts
