Pisted skiing is limited for beginners / intermediates however the area is excellent for off piste skiing / powder hound. To get the best out of the resort a mountain guide is a must (in 04 circa Euro 230 per day). There are two local guide companies. Heli skiing is also a must if conditions are good. A great surprise ! Was las week in Serre Chevalier : extensive area, very modern lifts, less queueing. Despite some reviews, Serre Chevalier benefits from a good night life : restaurant, wine bars, coffees, pubs with concerts, a large disco...and the hot baths ! 37A

The lift system is the best around, with the whole area superbly connected. I have lost count of the number of lifts that have been modernised over the years, always with faster more comfortable ones. The slopes are well groomed and the snow record excellent. Yes, there could be a bit more off piste, but thats really nit picking. Apres-ski superb and last year the floodlit slope was doubled in length and had halogen lights installed, if you want to ski til 10pm! Try and ski the whole…
