Saas is an odd ski area in that it is very contained, very high, and very thin. The height can be very difficult for new skiiers as the altitude causes tiredness and breathlessness. It also takes a while to get to the top. However if you can put up with that you will have some excellent runs to play on. We loved Nendaz so much last season despite the lack of snow that we bought a chalet here. The friendly locals have made us very welcome, there is a fantastic fantastic restaurant called Hameau Les Cleves, the village is great, the skiing is awesome. You should be aware that slopes for beginners are very limited, it is not the best resort if you have never skied before.

We stayed in Hotel Crystal in Obergurgl. The hotel was lovely and the food was stunning. Staff were all very friendly, although the barman is a bit odd. The snow was good and facilities are great for newbies and intermediates, perhaps a bit limited for very serious skiers and boarders. Nightlife is non-existant. Bring all you need with you as the shops all seem to be owned by the same group and are pretty expensive. Lunchtime food and apres ski all priced sensibly. Everyone in my party…
