We've been crashing around the Megeve pistes for about 25 years. Huge ski area with something for everyone (& expanding with La Giettaz opening up from Jaillet a couple of seasons back and rumour of a link over to Contamine from Mont Joly in the offing ...) We stay up the mountain in La Belle Etoile in Bettex. Ski to and from the hotel boot room with easy access to all areas of St Gervais, Megeve, St Nicolas, Mt Joly, Rochebrune, Cote 2000, Jaillet and, now, Giettaz. If you've got stamina it is possible to traverse the lot in one day. No nightlife up there, apart from what you make yourself (which is infinitely more enjoyable!) This is a skiers resort. I've skied Megeve 4 times now and am pleased to say will be there again in mid Feb. I have never been disappointed with the resort facilities or the pistes. All ages and abilities are catered for on the slopes. Can be busy in the half term week but outside of this the slopes are yours to enjoy. The views are incredible and because it's quite a low resort the snow is amazing, even caught a fresh dump last year after trying Chamonix for a day ( avoid. ) It is a little more expensive that some other resorts but with everything in life you get what you pay for. Megève is het St. Tropez van de Franse sneeuw. Megève biedt een uitstekend skigebied met in totaal zo'n 445 kilometer piste en 160 liften, waarbij het wel een nadeel is dat het niet zo hoog en sneeuwzeker. Uiteraard wordt er met moderne sneeuwkanonnen alles aan gedaan om het ook bij minder goede omstandigheden in topconditie te houden. De relatief geringe hoogte is slechts een bescheiden minpunt, want de meeste bezoekers komen niet naar Megève voor de beste afdalingen, optimale sneeuw en wilde offpiste avonturen. Megeve heeft alles voor een verwende skier: wie houdt van een buitengewoon goed piste restaurant met bijvoorbeeld foie gras of coquilles st jaques op een super gedekte tafel met heerlijke wijn en een open haard, moet echt in Megeve zijn. De pistes zijn allemaal vrij makkelijk en zeer afwisselnd. Alleen op Mont Joly is het aantrekkelijk voor een echte crack. Maar wie lekker afwisselen wil skien, in overweldigende natuur en zo nu en dan eens ergens heerlijk wil zitten kan je niets beters wensen dan Megeve: ook in de avond is er van alles te doen: piano bars, disco's restaurants en 100en winkletjes. Zeer knusse en charmante hotels: maar dat alles wel voor de verwende personen, want pas op MEGEV

Been skiing at Megeve every year for the last 16 years. The views are excellent, there are numerous restaurants dotted all over the resort and they are almost all proper restaurants (none of the self-service canteens you get in the bigger resorts). As with all low resorts the snow is not always great at the beginning and end of the season (having said that I had 50cm of untouched powder in the middle of April two years back, and a full week of fresh powder every day last Christmas).
