Ziemlich schönes, relativ großes Dorf. Viele Geschäfte, Restaurant und Après-Ski. Junges Publikum, viele zwischen 20 und 25 Jahren. Nachteil ist dass es keine Abfahrt ins Tal gibt. Morgens gegen 9 Uhr mit der Penkenbahn nach oben und gegen halb vier zurück entsteht aber eine Wartezeit von 20 min. ansonsten ein umfangreiches Skigebiet. Gletscher liegt nicht bei Mayrhofen selbst sondern 2 Dörfer weiter oben, Hintertux.

Mayrhofen is een geweldige plaats om te wintersporten! Het skigebied van Mayrhofen is, zeker voor Oostenrijke begrippen met 160km best aardig. Voor de fanatieke skiër is het gebied te klein om je een hele week te vermaken, maar gelukkig is er de mogelijkheid om met dezelfde skipas naar Kaltenbach/Hochfugen en ZellamZiller/Gerlos/Koenigsleiten te gaan. Tel daar de Hintertux gletsjer bij op en je komt op een totaal van bijna 600km! Door de moderne liftvoorzieningen zijn er praktisch geen wachttijden en met de gletsjer weet je zeker dat je kunt skiën, ook als er een jaar wat minder sneeuw ligt. Ik kom al 10 jaar naar Mayrhofen, moet zeggen dat het er alleen maar beter op geworden is. Nieuwe grote liften etc. waardoor e wachttijden aanzienlijk verminderd zijn. De lift in mayrhofen zelf is altijd zeer druk, probeer daarom bij de Horbergbahn of bij Finkenberg omhoog te gaan, daar is het minder dringen geblazen. Verder is natuurlijk de gletsjer een grote aanrader, geen wachttijden en niet druk net als het nabij gelegen dorpje Lanersbach, dat met de Penken verbonden is. Qua apres-ski natuurlijk de schlussel alm! altijd gezellig en lekker druk.

Was worried that Mayrhofen at half term might be a nightmare but could not have been more wrong. The anticipated mass of school age skiers and boarders did not materialise and for the most part the slopes were uncrowded. Much is made in the Resort Guide about the queue for the Penken gondola, which can seem daunting, but if you keep to the outside "lane" you can normally get to the front within 10-15 minutes. Once past that though there are no real bottlenecks. The only real problem for us was the quality of the snow, which cut up quite badly in the afternoons, particularly on the runs back down to the Penken gondola. Just returned from a weeks skiing in Mayrhofen (13th - 20th January). Even though there hasn been a great deal of snow, like most other resorts, Mayrhofen has worked hard to keep a good covering of snow and predominantly good skiing conditions. The lift system across the ski area is excellent. The new Ahorn Bahn opened in December 6 whisks skiers to the Ahorn mountain in just over 5 minutes. Queues do form on the Penken Gondola, but if you make an early start you can avoid excessive queing. Mayrhofen is a very pretty village, with lots of nice hotels and a good variety of shops. We stayed at the Mannis Hotel, which was excellent. Great food, first class service and a good central location.
