Mellau is linked with Damuls and has good selection of lifts and runs. Further resorts in the valley can be accessed by a free bus. The 4 person gondola in Mellau was prone to queuing at peak times and a walk to a T-bar was required at the top. Not snow sure so check conditions are OK before you go. No English spoken at ski school and very few Brits in resort. Would recommend Hotel Engel for accomodation.

This is quite unknown to Brits, since you have to pass the mega-monster resorts of Alp d'Huez, Les Deux Alpes etc to get here so it tends to get overlooked. It's popular with the French, and for good reason - its a nice tidy couple of resorts (Super Devoluy is quite ugly, 60s, La Joue du Loup is a little more pituresque). The lifts are fairly efficient but can get crowded around French holidays. Again, since it's a 'French' resort, don't expect great nightlife - on the plus side you…

Macugnaga is quiet and exceptional for families with children. I love it, as you won't have the crowds you get at big resorts and you have no big hotels spoiling the authentic mountain resort. The skiing is good and the food fantastic. If you want to relax and ski with no overcrowding and in a resort that has all the charm and quaintness of a proper mountain resort with views to die for without breaking the bank then you have to visit.
