Whilst the off-piste is not as good as its near neighbour St Anton, the on-piste skiing is as good and off the slopes in the bars Ischgl is definately 5 star. The lift system is very efficient, the views great, especially on the long run down into Samnaun. Not many cosy little restaurants on the pistes though. Ischgl also is one of the most snow sure resorts around, usually open from the end of November to the beginning of May, and no glacier skiing. Only negative with the skiing is…

I have been going to Austria for about 14 years now and have been to most of the resorts. St Johann is a very family friendly resort and my 9 year old daughter enjoyed it so much that she has insisted that we return this year. The ski school staff are excellent and the pistes are very well prepared. A highlight of the week for us was the demonstration of skiing by the ski instructors half way through the week, it helps of course that it all happens outside of a very good apri ski bar!…

We were at Kaprun over 1-7 Jan 2006. I was extremely impressed: together with Zell am See, Kaprun offers a fantastic range of skiing. The glacier area at Kaprun offers a great combination of blues/reds for the beginner and intermediate, whilst giving the expert extensive powder areas to play in. Zell am See, a short ski bus ride away, has a good spread of blues/reds/blacks to keep the whole group interested. It was the peak week of the season, but with the exception of the morning…
