The ski area at Hafjell has expanded over the past few years, and with the addition of a gondola, there are a good number of varied runs for all ski levels. There are also more family and nursery runs and the childcare is excellent. This is definitely the place to introduce your young family to skis (or boards).

I find it sort of amazing the amount of praise heaped on St. Anton. I basically found it to be a very bland and small town convincing itself it is something special, with some special prices. The mountain is average to above average but nothing outstanding. If you want exclusive, go to Zermatt or St.Moritz. If you really want to ride/ski go to Whistler or Vail or Jackson Hole. Had my best skiing holiday ever, during the first week of February 2008. It was our first time to visit Zell am Zee, and we were very impressed. It's a beautiful area, great town, loads of restaurants and bars, plenty of shopping and facilities, and skiing was great. A lot of the easier blue and red runs are at the top of the mountain, where you can pick and choose which runs suit you. We will definitely return to Zell and Crazy Daisys for apres-ski!!!
