The ski area is tiny (just 10 lifts) and not that high but it has a great secret: the sheltered, north-facing slopes hold powder for days after a snowfall. Theres just one compact ski area, with one restaurant at the centre - so everyone can ski at their own pace, and then easily meet up for lunch or coffee. Above all the pistes are empty. This is great for beginners to gain confidence without aggressive speedsters swooping past them. The village itself is pretty, traditional and quiet - perfect for a young family.

Great snow, good weather, small but perfectly formed resort with easy access to all parts of the resort, virtually no crowds on lifts or pistes, pleasant mountain restaurants, excellent, well organized English speaking ski school , friendly well equipped hotel. Direction of slopes leads to skiing in shade much of the day so can be chilly, limited runs and lifts for dedicated all day skiers but easy access to Ischgl by ski bus for keen types. All in all, an excellent choice for a mixed ability two family group.

Few challenges for experts No waiting at the lifts

Just back after Feb/08 1/2 term. Group of 17 of us stayed at Hotel Alpenrose in Galtur with Inghams (would recommend) - bus stop outside; 5 mins to Wirl slopes, 10 mins to Ishgl. Wirl great for beginners and first day of holiday to get those ski legs working! Lovely wide slopes, nice restaurants and good ski school. Limited night life in Galtur but charming ten pin bowling at sports centre. Outside ice-skating rink in village - melting by end of week. Skiing in Ishgl starts at top station - lifts very busy from 9am. Found Fimba gondola to be less busy. Fab skiing, mainly reds - best for intermediates and not a lot of struggling beginners around. Because it was high, snow great all week altho

A small friendly resort with an excellent snow record, the village stands at 1584m with much of the skiing above the tree line. Whilst the ski area is relatively small it does not suffer from the crowds of some of the more, well known resorts. A short *** bus ride away is the larger resort of Ischgl, which provides over 200km of well-groomed pistes. The village is effectively split into two; the centre is a mainly hotels, while a mix of apartments and hotels can be found at the foot of the lift system. Nightlife is generally quite, there are a couple of Bars which can be lively. Overall a friendly resort-offering crowd *** skiing.
