The skiing is good fun with fast modern lifts. Nearly all the terrain is graded red/intermediate - a lot of it the kind of red that would be graded black in North Amerrica. There were a few blues, but really they ought to be reds too. The terrain is high which meant we had great skiing. You can ski over the border in to Austria and down to Ischgl, which is a cool thing to be able to do. So it's great for intermediates but not so good for beginners I would guess.

Back in resort we found great restaurants that were very affordable despite the high quality and lots of duty free bargains - much better than airport duty free.

Made a 2 day flying visit this February and was 100% impressed with no signs of screaming half-term schoolkids! Samnaun may be shopping and duty free heaven (designer watches, sunglasses, booze etc), but more importantly it hooks you straight into the 235km linked Silvretta Arena ski area without the lift queues and the bawdy German revellers of late night Ischgl. There is a smart doubledecker cablecar up from Samnaun Plan and two great routes home at the end of the day - the longest is the Duty Free-Run from Palinkopf down to Dorf with the Smugglers Inn as a lively apres ski stop. Similarly there is a good hut at the bottom of home run red 60 at Laret by Samnaun Compatsch. There's ample int

Especially fort he intermediate skier and of course the Après Ski fans Silvretta is one of the top destinations in the Eastern Alps. To be mentioned are not only the challenging intermediate trails but also the great lift facilities for example the modern Doppelstock gondola in Samnaun-Plan. A comfortable ascent and descent are therefore a sure thing. Conclusion: If one is an experienced skier the Silvretta Arena Samnaun / Ischgl is always worth a visit of one or several days.

Beginners moeten dus hun pistes goed uitzoeken. Denk aan sneeuwketting.

Pretty quiet, charming village set in a narrow valley with minimal traffic, at least if you stay up in Dorf. Tax- prices make shopping for skis, sunglasses, cigarettes and booze attractive to many. Seems to bring in a predominantly German and of course Swiss crowd. Very little by the way of English speakers and perhaps surprisingly not very many Dutch who seem to prefer Ischgl as a base. Stayed at the Hotel des Alpes - nice rooms, spectacularly presented food and great breakfast buffet. Access to double-decker cable-car is by skating along a path or via regular ski-bus which skirts the village. Most of the skiing is found between about 2000m and 2800m which makes for pretty good snow reliabi
