We have just returned from a week in Chamonix. The only words i can use to describe it are awesome and extreme. We are a first time skier and a one previous weeks experience skier, both female and mid thirties. We skied mainly in Les Houche, about 5 mins from Chamonix center. It was extremely good senery and ideal for the beginner and intermediate skier. ESF ski school were fantastic, spoke great english and i having only skied once before, was skiing down the to the valley on the world cup black run by the end of the week. Lift passes are available daily and reduce in price the later you arrive in the day. If like us, you wish to sample the apres ski, Wild Wallabies and Google are both exce

Chamonix is one of my favorite global ski areas and i have skied there ten times. the scenery is just awesome, the best in europe, other perhaps than zermatt. the town provides a taste of france, with some lovely architecture, squares and sculptures, split by a fast flowing river, and it has a wide variety of hotels and restaurants. the skiing is varied since there are five major ski stations along the valley. the best ski station by far is le grand montet, with its 6,700 foot vertical , although most of the skiing is on vertical s of 2100-4200 from the mid-station. the runs, some of them over glaciers, are endlessly interesting and challenging. the pistes there are mainly advanced intermedi

Chamonix is certainly one of the ski resorts that is at the top of my list when i am getting serious about skiing. speaking of a ski resort is misleading however: chamonix is more a ski town which happens to be located in one of the most spectacular valley in the alps. it is made of several ski resorts: les houches, le bravent - la flegere, le tour - vallorcine, les grands montets and laiguille du midi. in general, great ski area that offers a wide variety of runs smaller family style areas as well as plenty of bigger challenging, intermediate and black runs. there are treed areas and wide open. the food on the slopes was awesome. scenery is noteworthy too. some of the lift equipment is not
