Chamonix consists of 3 separate skireas each with their own identity. Le Tour at the very end of the Chamonix Valley, just 100 m from the Swiss border, is a large bowl-shaped area with long and wide slopes and excellent scenery. The Le Tour area has several wide blue and gentle red pistes and is ideal for beginners and less experienced skiers. Gand Montets, just above Argentiere, is the largest ski area in the valley, mainly appreciated by semi-advanced skiers. La Flegere and Le Brevent is the skiarea closest to Chamonix. It consists of challenging reds and blacks.

Chamonix is one of the jewels of skiing anywhere in the world. Les Grand Montets is situated above Argentiere and is the largest of the pisted skiing areas in the Chamonix valley. Les Grands Montets has a reputation for offering some of the hardest pistes in Europe, and this is a reputation fully justified. It is home of steep and deep challening pistes. As well as the really obvious stuff between the pistes, there’s plenty more off piste in Chamonix within easy reach for just a little bit of effort. Don’t be put off though: there are still long, wide slopes that can be attempted by daring beginners that suit an advanced skier just as well.

Good selection of pistes at the 3 major stations of Brevent-Flegere, Le Tour/Balme and Les Grands Montets. The terrain is great for off piste riders, but a lot of routes from the top of Grands Montets and Aiguille du Midi require a guide. Les Houches has the best snow park. The Mont Blanc Unlimited Pass currently includes Curmayeur, Italy (free bus each ady) and Verbier, Swizerland (Bus 22 euros rtn runs each Thursday). Chamonix Sud is reasonably priced and good for Aprés Ski but poor for families.

Chamonix offers every level of slopes, restaurants, shopping, history and amazing views. Don't miss the after ski crowd at Elevation bar, or the Terrasse. Stayed in a wonderful family owned hotel- Oustalet- a 5 min. walk to the centre. I took the small train over the Alps from Martigny Swittzerland. Beautiful old world experience. I am an extreme skier, and loved the vast opportunities of technical skiing, and the international crowd. Chamonix will be home for years.

If you're looking for great nights out and plenty of places to eat than you will love it. If you want to ski then go elsewhere. No ski areas are linked and you spend most of the day doing the same runs. People say the off-piste at Chamonix is The Best Ever but I do not agree. Try the 3 valleys.
