I spent 6 days staying in the Hotel Hochfilzer (which I would highly recommend) in mid February 06. The Ellmau schischule, which is situated at the foot of the Astberg mountain, is fantastic with a range of fluent English speaking easy-going staff who are extremely capable skiers/snowboarders. Although the resort is not famed for being snow sure, this particular time the area was covered with powder in abundance. The ski demo on Thursday nights was also worth seeing!

Ellmau is a charming typical Tirolean village. The atmosphere is one of relaxed easygoing locals and Dutch, lots of Dutch people. There are many good resturants and bars although it is not noted for its nightlife, however Soll is only a short taxi ride away. The skiing is good but not challenging and the Skiwelt as a whole is very suitable for beginners and improvers. The ski schools are also excellent with fluent english spoken and so making Ellmau great for familes, although not snow sure

Delightful small village but with plenty to do. lots of friendly dutch and english people. busy at times on the slopes, but with the funicular it is only 5 minutes until you are at the top of the hartkaiser. runs on ellmau side were limited in number but it is very easy to get to scheffau and soll to explore loads of runs. piste map does leave a lot to be desired and we found it a bit confusing. off piste is good but limited in tree runs as the trees are too close together.
