The new lifts from 2007/08 are definitely making a positive improvement on the uplift capacity. One of our group started snowboarding and described the area as superb. Talk of joining the Kaprun/Zell area to Piesendorf and eventually to Saalbach continues. Would strongly recommend the Hotel Sonnblick to anyone staying in Kaprun. The food is better than any normal ski hotels.

A perfect resort, with a good mix of slopes for mainly beginners, and intermediates. The three ski areas of i)Kitzsteinhorn with the glacier skiing above Kaprun, ii) The Maisikogel where you can ski down into the centre of Kaprun, iii) The Schmittenhohe above Zell am See with fantastic views over the lake at Zell am See and beyond. There is further skiing in Saalbach and Hinterglemm in the next valley along, and the Gastein Valley is only half a hour away by car. Good and short transfer links of just over 1 hour, and indeed the icing on the cake.

Just got back from staying at the Hohe Tauern (catered Chalet) with Crystal Ski. Fantastic accomodation, great dinners and brilliant chalet 'boys'! Would recommend to anyone...cannot speak highly of Crystal right now. Relaxed shared and clean chalet (we were lucky as the other groups were a really nice bunch, and no children in our group that week!). As for Kaprun itself, nice town. Slopes are good and well maintained (but we did have snow so to be expected I guess). Short ride to Zell Am See brings more slopes to explore. Quite busy at times and had to queue twice for some time to get on the lifts (Sunday and Tuesday), but on the whole very good. The Glacier there is great, very cold, but g

The Glacier provides a snow sure holiday. When the conditions are right (which is most of the winter) there are so many off-piste possibilities. The village offers, probably the best beginners slope available and small children have several areas in which to learn as well. As an alternative the area of Zell am See is a short bus ride away and offers a large variety of skiing. Zell is a larger town and nosier/livelier than Kaprun. Kaprun town is typical Austria and has many restaurants and bars without being too noisy. So a family friendly resort with a lot of skiing and a beautiful setting. Doesn't get any better.

Have been twice to Kaprun in January ...first time as beginners 2006, second time, as not quite beginners/intermediate in 2007! We are a family of two adults with three children aged from five to eleven, four of us wanted to learn to ski, one to snowboard (11 year old boy). Thought I would be lucky to get any time skiing due to kids but low and behold, all very happy in excellent ski school both am and pm, leaving adults to do their own thing as much or little as they wanted, absolute bliss. Highly recommend the following school - Ski snowboarding kaprun, gernot schermer. The instructors were brilliant with the kids with excellent English and when my son found the snowboarding hard to master
