Nassfeld is a hidden gem. Not well known outside of Austria, but with good skiing. It is very snow sure, being what the Austrians call a Schnee winkel, snow pocket. There is about 100 miles of piste, mostly red, with a few blacks and a couple of blues. I would say it's not great for absolute beginners, as most of the resort is laid to reasonably steep reds. There is good lift accessed off piste, and you can ski across the border into Italy. There are also good, tight, tree runs off piste. Nassfeld is not much known outside Kaernten (Carinthia) which is strange being very extensive and well maintained – one of the best in Austria. They claim to have 110 km of runs and they didn’t make it up, you can’t ski them all in a day. Lately a lot of East Europeans are coming here for holidays but Slovenians have always been here for a day trip. New installments are very good and future projects of connecting the resort with town Pontebba in Italy looks great. Scenery is very mountainous, runs very varied and they actually stretch over 5 valleys. So the views are always different and mostly great. The famous long Carnia run is actually very flat in the secon

The resort suits intermediate skiers but the pistes offer both wide cruising and carving sections along with lots of bumps and narrow steep sections. Restaurant at the top of the mountain gets very busy at lunchtime. Get there before 12:30 and its fine any later and you queue for 30 mins to eat! Or zip down to Nassfeld or Sonneleitin and find an empty restaurant right on the piste. The lifts are quick and they even fill the chairs so the queues go down really quickly. We didn't wait for more than 5 mins over the whole weekend. Its one of those resorts that is suited to a long weekend or a week if skiing with children. There is a lot of piste and we didn't cover more than 15% in our couple of
