There can't be many resorts in the world as beautiful as Zermatt. On a fine day, skiing on its slopes feels like an outing to the sky, it's all so open and dramatic. But sadly, it's time for a little reality. The truth is, if you're a reasonably good skier, it hasn't got all that much to offer. The lift system is often frustratingly slow, relying heavily on cable cars, and at busy times - such as April school holiday time in 2008 - queues can become immense. One day I waited well over an hour at Gant, where you're trapped with a choice between a slow gondola and a cable car with no way down to the valley. There are some good itinerary runs (patrolled off-piste), especially in the Stockhorn a

Summer and Winter in Zermatt is magical, always plenty going on, best skiing in the world, best facilities to get up the mountains, ski to Cervinia if you like pasta. Perhaps I am biased being an annual visitor. Maybe I shouldn't praise Zermatt like this, the consequence being, it might get crowded.

Spent a week in Zermatt with 2 other experienced skiers and 3 beginners. Everybody had a great time. Beginners did lessons with Summit ski school, they were very professional. I thought the ski safari was amazing and is totally worth attempting. Attempted it twice in the week but only completed once. The black run from Schwarzee to Furi and the red run from Rathorn to Gant were my two favourites. I think I spend less then a minute queuing all week and most of that was at the bar. The expensive lift pass is completely worth it. Really enjoyed the nightlife too, T-bar all the way... Stayed in an apartment near the train station called Haus Sonnamatt. It was very reasonable and extremely well m

Just back from 4 days skiing in Zermatt with a group of 7 mixed ability skiers and boarders - we had a great time. The conditions for the time of year where outstanding, cold sunny days (very very cold at the top of the glacier) and lots of snow. The ski area is huge and it takes a long time to ski it all, but the lifts make getting between the three ski areas easy. The only slight downside is the length of time it takes to get to the top of the glacier ! We stayed in the hotel Christiania which is next to the Sunnega lift, I couldn't recommend the hotel highly enough - great food, great service and well located. I probably wouldn't reccomend Zermatt for people with young families but otherw

My husband and I usually ski in France but decided to go to Zermatt this Easter - what a FANTASTIC skiing resort. The sun shone all week. Grampi's was excellent for evening entertainment and food and drink and the ski-ing area was superb. We are intermediate skiiers and mostly skied the red slopes and a few blue - Klein Matterhorn (excellent), the Rothorn, the Sunnega, the Gornograt and the Schwarzee - no problems. We had lunch at 3000m.(approx.) each day, prices comparable to UK on slopes and off. Stayed in St.Pauli apartment in the Wiesti area - excellent views from the balcony and very convenient to walk or take an electric bus to all areas. Parked car down in Visp on way over and caught
