You have to try Canalone Groppera, one of the toughest, most scenic slopes in the Alps

Madesimo is a traditional italian ski station with an excellent snow record.
Whilst Madesimo is not the largest ski area in the world, it makes up for this with a fantastic lift system. When we visited most of the major lifts had no queues at all and you could literally ski right through the turnstile and onto the chair. The mountain restaurants were good value. We found the Italians very warm and friendly on the whole and did their best to accommodate us. The town is pleasant but being small does not have a large apres ski scene if that is what you are after, but it is not bad for a small town like Madesimo. Ideal for families.

Madesimo is very nice for a short break. Friday night all the Italians turn up for the weekend from Milan and then the place comes alive.
The resort is very small and you can walk one end to the other in about 10-15 minutes. We only saw two drag lifts hence this is a very popular resort for snowboarders who arrive in droves at the weekend! All the slopes can be skied in a couple of days and the learner slope is right in the resort - very wide and nice and easy. Madesimo is a good place to learn - there are plenty of blue runs but beware if you are a complete beginner because in places they can be a bit steep, especially the ones back to resort which tag on to the end of reds.
