Overview for chamonix

Major change in weather pattern underway and significant snow expected

Slowly the temperature in the Alps starts to descend on Tuesday. Wednesday morning, frost may hang around the upper slopes during daytime. On New Year's Eve clouds will build up quickly from the west and the first precipitation will enter the Pyrenees and the western French Alps as we enter into 2016. Looks like 5 to 15 cm of much needed fresh snow is expected above 1300m. It will still be quite mild at first, but on Friday the temperature will drop further allowing snow to settle at around 1100m. The snow will spread further east, but less snow is forecasted over there. The snowline in the central Alps is slightly lower at around 1000m.

There are few places to match Chamonix as far as the variety of terrain and snowconditions are concerned.

Some of the finest expert terrain in the world -much of it off-piste, ski touring, gentle family tree-lined runs, and legendary glacier descents will keep everyone busy and excited, from novice to brain-dead daredevils.
