With an extensive network of varied and challenging runs, quick uplift and excellent uplift, why would you want to go anywhere else? You want to go somewhere else because Tignes is ugly, rammed full of Brits and expensive. Sure, some of the off piste is fantastic- I have some great memories of bouncing around L'Espace Killy after a dump, but the problem is it will all be tracked out within a day or two. Its not like going on holiday- you are surrounded by British pillocks with bad manners and even worse technique. Whilst its true that some of the lifts are world class- take the Grande Motte funicular or the Olympique cable out of Val for examples, a large proportion are utterly useless- ie t

Had a great ski hol in Tignes last winter, we arrived in rain (Dec 30th) but was welcomed into all the bars and restaurants... We were a group of 16 and with 4 non-skiers and we needed a base, so the Brasero was it for us, it is at the bus stop so the kids can find you after lessons etc.. and when the rain stopped and the snow started the rest of the gang skied to Brasero / Lavachet. They had really cool staff who showed a real interest in your day (the same cannot be said of the other bars in lavachet !! no names mentioned). Looking at the first 2 weeks in jan 2008 now, will report back.

If you want to come down for some serious boarding, this is a very good place: no queuing, long slopes with little flatness, challenging rides and good snow, though the French don like to maintain their pistes as the Austrians do, but for off-piste, who cares anyway. The resort is pretty dull though, parking a nightmare so best park your car 2 villages down and forget about it, accommodation is quite small and not clean (our hotel room was zing cold with just 1 heating cell) and as the resort is expensive to eat out, cooking for yourself is unavoidable, with the little space you have. I guess if you
e British and have loads of cash to get pissed each night, you might call apres-ski reasonab
