St. Johann has some of the best beginners/intermediate terrain around in Austria. What I really like is that there is an area to the east side of the mountain (Eichenhof) which has no snowmaking so the snow quality is excellent whilst temperatures are low. And as the lifts on that side are mostly T-bars it is much quieter. There is a variety of terrain that allows skiers to improve at a natural pace without having to tackle anything too difficult too soon. The only negatives are that the beginners areas are all on the edge of the village and require a bit of a walk, a bus or a taxi to get to. The instructors are brilliant, they had me skiing on the black slope by the end of the week. However

This small village in Tyrol offers excellent opportunities for beginners. Bascially it is one big mountain where all slopes end up in the village, very accessible. The majority of the slopes are reds and blues. Sankt Johann has a great atmosphere. On the slopes you will find traditional berghuttes. It is lovely to try one of the local dishes here with a large pint of lager. If you are looking for lounche bars and disco's don't come here. If you love the tyrolean vibe, a charming farming village and friendly people this is the place to be! The village is very popular with the Dutch.

Enjoy St.Johann with its very warm friendly people and pleasant village atmosphere. St.Johann has runs to suit all levels of skier and boarder but off piste is a bit limited. The scenery is beautiful with several wide runs through pine forest and a very wide open expanse for learners. Lifts and Gondolas plentiful & modern - a bare handful of T bars at lower levels for children. A good choice of onslope restaurants - and your never more than 5 mins from one - try going to the top of the Harbisch Lift, grab a goulash soup and enjoy the view serenity and clean air - if your a good skier it'll take you 15 minutes to pound the 7km back to base. Good selection of skiing outside St.Johann. The

Not for the really advanced though it had more than enough to keep me on my toes. This is my fourth ski holiday. Tip if you visit this little town and want to experience more... buy the ski pass which opens up over 600km of runs. Public transport is as everywhere in Europe except the u.k. allowing easy transfers to Kitzbuhel in 20 minutes running every 30 minutes.. Abundant Snow making fascilities compliment the natural snow all over the mountain. Just enough apres-ski nightlife for a very reasonable price. It has the best ski school (wath their show one evening) I have experienced.. Will be back !!!
