Saas Fees' glacier runs are far better than Zermatt's, yet the village lacks the charm and authenticity of its more popular sister. The only Walliser houses I saw were purely for tourist consumption. The pistes are limited, and, as other reviewers have pointed out, there is a lot of walking to be done. I was lucky enough to find some fresh powder on Plattjen two days after it snowed; even the crud was fun on my longboard. Avoid the Alpin Express, which gets horrendously crowded. Head to Felskinn early in the day if you want to get in lots of vertical. The gondola to Spielboden is amazingly empty and is also a better way of getting up the mountain than the awful Metro/Allalin route.

We went here in the beginning of January 2006. That mean't it was pretty cold (-20C) but it was empty and not a single queue all week at the lifts. The village is car free so you have to get electric 'johnny cabs' everywhere. In general, it's pretty expensive here but hunt around, but you can find cheap food but don't expect to eat in! The lift system is well organised and gets you up the mountain fast. There's also a train to get to the very top - it goes through the mountain at quite a steep angle giving the skiers a hard time in their boots. Because the Fee mountain has a glacier, if look down as you go up on the gondala, you can see lovely big crevasses waiting to swallow you up if you s

Saas Fee is a highly European oriented resort, catering significantly more for German and French speaking visitors than English than any other resort I've been to. The only advantage of this resort is the guaranteed snow due to it's high altitude, but the quantity and variety of ski runs is poor, and the accesibility of the few runs that exist is similarly bad. There is little room for advancement from beginners to intermediate, and as a beginner you may find yourself completely confined to the nursery slopes for the duration of your visit. The lift system is quite old fashioned although it is being upgraded gradually. Height of the resort does mean that it is more prone to closure in bad we
