Geweldig skigebied. 's Avonds lekker stappen in the London pub, apres skipaleis en Goasstall. En dit allen in Hinterglemm! Vond Hinterglemm zelf leuker dan Saalbach!

Natural snow depths were way below-average, but a good covering of manmade from their many snowguns meant roughly two-thirds of all slopes remained open during the week. The skiing is ideal for intermediates, with most runs being steepish blues or reds. However, beginners and experts should look elsewhere. There are few shallow pistes for newbies, while advanced riders will struggle to get excited about the handful of mediocre blacks and modest offpiste. The several ski areas, which are gladed and mildly pretty, fan out along the length of the valley, requiring occasional bus trips. Try to use the skibus as little as possible, because the service is infrequent and often overcrowded. Broadly

Having visited Saalbach twice before, and preparing to return again this weekend, I have found Saalbach and the Ski-Circus to be a wonderful resort. It can be as quiet or as lively as you want it to be, but the apres ski certainly has a fabulous atmosphere. The extensive runs are a bonus to those who really do want a full days skiing, but the choice is yours. As a family we enjoy all aspects of this resort and as far as lift queues are concerned, they arent any worse here than any other resort I have visited.

The Glemm Valley above the resort offers one of the largest and best integrated ski areas in Europe, with over 200km (125 miles) of trails fully lift-linked so that you can easily travel in either direction around the Ski Circus. Intermediates will enjoy the vast ski area the most: with nine different access points to the skiing spread along the valley, including lifts from the village centres, its extremely easy to get up and around. Experts head for the north-facing Zwolferkogel which has an exciting, if tiring 3km (2 mile) black mogul descent. Another ‘must’ for advanced skiers is the long black under the Schattberg gondola. A run over to lift-linked Leogang is well worth the
