Megeve is a resort with little ambience. It is an expensive resort regarding what it has to offer. In restaurants in the town the wine was very expensive and prices in many of the mountain bars are astronomical. I would suggest nearby Combloux or Les Contamines. ...

Megeve is a beautiful place. The mountains are great, there are plenty of various slopes for all levels. Megeve is situated at low elevation and conditions can be tricky if the snow is not good. The lifts are quite slow as well. This is not the resort to go to if you like the ski-in ski-out type of holiday. There are loads of visitors there just to enjoy the town and also the mountain restaurants which can be reached without skiing. It is very expensive as well. On the plus side it is quite easy to get to and the skiing is mostly of the easy variety with great views. Apres-ski is quite quiet. To summarise - if you are looking for a hassle free holiday with good value food, guaranteed snow an...

Megeve is pretty town and quite Swiss/Russian focused. The shopping is the highlight; followed by the skiing in this and linked valleys. Good skiing. The town not pumping partywise. Shops good. Pricing is not cheap, but par the course of a swanky Alps resort. Skiing flatish as the bottom, but better up top. Downside is the absence of what some might see as enough affordable après ski (not much at all) and the prices generally (many restaurants expensive and beware the prices in the Jazz Bar). ...

We've been crashing around the Megeve pistes for about 25 years. Huge ski area with something for everyone (& expanding with La Giettaz opening up from Jaillet a couple of seasons back and rumour of a link over to Contamine from Mont Joly in the offing ...) We stay up the mountain in La Belle Etoile in Bettex. Ski to and from the hotel boot room with easy access to all areas of St Gervais, Megeve, St Nicolas, Mt Joly, Rochebrune, Cote 2000, Jaillet and, now, Giettaz. If you've got stamina it is possible to traverse the lot in one day. No nightlife up there, apart from what you make yourself (which is infinitely more enjoyable!) This is a skiers resort. Up with the first lift, down with t...
