The Hintertux glaciar is a great location for autumn and late spring/early summer skiing with excellent ski lift system and good restaurants. It can be quite cold on the upper slopes with the possibility that the ski lifts to the top are shut down in extreme weather but given the height, 3000 metres +, that is understandable. Conditions can sometimes be challenging if the wind is blowing and temperatures are low but it is still a great experience.I have skied Hintertux in the months of January, April,May, October and November and am greatly looking forward to my trip this October. For an intermediate skier such as my myself, my first trip to the Hintertux glacier in October of 2008 was an aw

A good venue for early season skiing accessible via easy driving with plenty of accommodation. Not sure I would go there for more then 3/4 days but when you need to go high early/late in the season it's well worth a visit. Not great for beginners as the blue runs on the glacier are only really accessible via reds. Good fast cable cars all the way up but you'll spend more time on T-bars than chairlifts after that.

The best thing for me about Hintertux is the lack of queues and this is due to the superb lift system they have there. The only time I have ever had to fight to get on a car was the first time I was there on the way back down the mountain. As soon as I found that you can ski from the top of the glacier right down to the village of Hintertux and right up to your car if you parked in the right place, I stopped bothering with the cable car. Apres-ski is limited so if you want a really mad one with loads of bars you had better stay in Mayerhofen but it is a long way from there to the lift systems at Hintertux, Eggalm and Finkenberger. If you don't mind spending an evening in one or two bars then

The skiing in the high altitude area of the Hintertux is superb, not only is there a good chance of sun and are the views spectular, but the quality of snow is great. The slopes are maintained not only during the evening but throughout the day, so slope conditions are really good. I will be back on the Hintertux this winter.

Hintertux...what a place! In my view the best glacier resort in Europe. Modern and fast lift system, Piste in great condition and cheap places to eat. The real secret is the off piste! Just below the glacier line in the winter there is a huge off piste bowl ( some of it marked as "schiroute" marked off piste ) and no body skis it! I was there on an "all mountain ski course" and the terrain was perfect. Tours are available with a guide to the higher peaks across the glacier. Can be cold in winter but the reward is worth it. You can link in to the main Zillertal ski system which has some great off piste if you know where to go. Good place for a mixed group of skiers. Better
